Mercy is now co-owned and living with
the West Family where she is adored
and treated like the Queen she is!
Mercy is the first "show-quality" weimaraner
I owned. The kennel name "Bravehart" was
chosen to honor the courage of Mercy after
her accident in 1997. Here is her story.
Mercy entered my life with a bang...and
she never slowed down!. Typical weimaraner
to the core, she was always active. Playing,
teasing, and always getting into something
was Mercy. My arms were black and blue
from the elbows down until she was almost
a year old. She "expressed" her overwhelming
emotions and happiness by giving me "love
bites" (pinches). I could not stop her
from doing this!
Even with all her enthusiasm, she was smart
as a whip and she earned her CD when she
was 13 months old.
Mercy was hurt when she was 19 months old.
I found her paralyzed, unable to move
and in shock. The vet said her X-rays
looked like she hit a tree head-on going
40 miles a hour. Weeks turned into months
as we nursed Mercy back to health. She
slowly regained the use of her limbs.
Through all of this, Mercy was quite the
trooper, she put up with the physical
therapy, chiropractor and vet visits.
Mercy never lost the mischievous glint
in her eyes and her spirit never failed.
Seven months after the accident we had
x-rays taken and sent them into OFA. Her
x-rays showed no structural damage and
OFA certified her hips as "Good".
Success! Mercy does have slight nerve
damage to her shoulder and she is unable
to complete her conformation championship.
This has not slowed her down one bit! With
the "Bravehart" within her, she has gone
on to learn field work. She earned her
Novice Shooting Dog Title six months after
the accident.
Our lives have never been the same since
the arrival of our "Bravehart" Mercy.
She is the spirit behind the Bravehart
name.
